Jyte is an application for people to make “claims”. Most are very silly and have no inherent value. Users attempt to build “cred” by getting others to affirm their claims.Show more screenshots »
JanRain launched Jyte in 2007 as a way for people with Open ID to gain credibility. It evolved into a fun tool for people to make claims about anything. Jyte was acquired by AboutUs in January of 2010.
Users can make whatever claim they want to and other users can agree or disagree. There is no verification or other background information. This is strictly for fun.
Once a claim is made, users are asked to see if the claim is a duplicate of others on the site. They can make any changes; add tags, descriptions, and an image if desired. During review, the image uploader did not work, despite attempts with various file formats and sizes.
Only other Jyte members may vote on the claims, limiting input, though users may invite others to join. The app is easy to use, but not very appealing.
Users sign in using AOL, Google, Yahoo, or OpenID accounts. No other information necessary.
Jyte is free to use.
Based on the existing claims and an overall impression of the site, Jyte is not recommended.
